Tours & LearningSunset Sail off the Kona Coast
An evening on the water as the sky turns magenta and gold. Our full review — with what we'd book again — is coming soon.

Kailua-Kona, Hawaiʻi · October 2026
Two Generations. One Island. Countless Memories. A Reasonable Budget.

Our Story
This is the story of a mother, a daughter, and one unforgettable week on the Kona coast. For Mom's seventy-fifth birthday, we traded the usual celebration for something better — a slow, sunlit trip through the town where Hawaiian history, coffee country, and the Pacific all meet.
These pages are part magazine, part memory book, and part honest guide for anyone who wants to see Kona well without spending a fortune. We're still writing it, one sunset at a time.
— Josie Mae

Travel Smarter
We didn't travel cheap — we traveled deliberately. Here's what actually saved us money without saving us any joy.
October gave us warm water, smaller crowds, and noticeably better rates on stays and cars.
A condo paid for itself in breakfasts and snacks. We ate out once a day and never felt we were missing anything.
Kona rewards a car. A weekly rental beat daily tours and let us follow the day's weather.
Reef-safe sunscreen, a refillable bottle, and snacks from home saved real money at beach prices.
We picked a single experience to spend on and kept everything else reasonable. No regret, no guilt.
One folder, two phones, every sunset. It's the cheapest souvenir we brought home.
